Propelled by strong new vehicle sales and higher gasoline prices, seasonally adjusted retail sales in Alberta rose by 1.1 per cent in February to $7.4 billion.
Sales in the province were above pre-pandemic levels for the sixth month in a row with year-over-year sales up by 10.0 per cent ($679.1 million) compared to the previous February.
Clothing stores, however, continued to struggle with year-over-year sales down by 26.8 per cent.
Nationally, retail sales increased by 4.8 per cent on a monthly basis and were 6.0 per cent higher than in February 2020.
